WYC's Positive Reinforcement Program

At Waccamaw Youth Center, we operate a Positive Reinforcement Program designed to empower our residents with the skills and support necessary to thrive in society. Our comprehensive services encompass various areas crucial for holistic development:

  1. Independent Living Skills:

Residents are equipped with essential life skills including employment readiness, financial management, time management, admission/discharge planning, and the cultivation of individual and group living skills.

  2. Mental Health Counseling:

On-site counseling services address client needs, DSS treatment goals, and court orders. Our experienced residential counselor provides individual, group, and family counseling as required.

  3. Educational Services:

We offer educational advocacy, academic tutoring, and engagement in after-school programs such as clubs and sports. Our commitment extends to encouraging post-high school pursuits, whether in college, trade schools, or vocational programs.

  4. Social/Recreational Activities:

We recognize the importance of social and recreational fulfillment in a child's life. Our center offers a range of organized and self-directed activities, including sports on our basketball, volleyball, football, baseball, and soccer fields. Additional resources for biking, weight training, boxing, as well as indoor entertainment like video games and movies, are also available. Extracurricular involvement is actively encouraged to foster skill development.

  5. Spiritual Fulfillment:

Residents have the option to attend local church services and related programs. We also support and commend residents participating in community volunteer programs and special projects.

  6. Room and Board:

Each resident is accommodated in rooms housing 2-3 individuals. Our facilities include shared spaces such as living rooms, dining areas, kitchens, and recreational/computer centers.

  7. Family Contacts/Visitations:

Preapproved family visits are facilitated, with the frequency and length determined by individual circumstances, court orders, DSS treatment plans, and WYC program guidelines. Supervision levels are adjusted accordingly.

At Waccamaw Youth Center, our commitment lies in nurturing the potential of every resident and providing a supportive environment for their growth and development.
